What is PBIS? School-wide PBIS is a multi-tiered framework to make schools more effective places. It establishes a social culture and the behavior supports needed to improve social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes for all students throughout the school.
Kathryn Hughes Elementary first began implementing PBIS practices during the 2015-2016 school year as part of a two-year study that included several other schools in Santa Clara Unified School District. During the first year of the study, Hughes began developing its Tier 1 systems and began planning Tier 2. With district support, PBIS at Hughes currently operates Tier 1 and Tier 2 support systems, with Tier 3 under development.
