Miss Stephanie Durand

Welcome To Kindrgarten!

Welcome to room 2. My name is Stephanie Durand. I have been at Hughes for 20 years and couldn't imagine being anywhere else! It is an honor to be a part of such a caring supportive community. I graduated from Patten college (Oakland) with a BA in Liberal Studies and retruned there to get my teaching credential. While teaching at Hughes, I received my Masters degree in 2002 in Teaching Leadership.

I enjoy reading books, playing basketball, watching football, going to movies and watching my nieces and nephews sporting events! I am looking forward to working with you and your child.

Kindergarten is a milestone in your child’s life. It is not only the beginning of his/her first formal education, but will be the first step toward life-long learning and social participation. New experiences and friends will make this year a special time for you and your child. I have planned many exciting activities for this school year and am anxious to share them with you and your little ones. My goal is to instill a love for learning and to take each child from where he/she is now, to as far as he/she is able to go this year. I believe students should want to go to school and be ecxited about coming. I try my best to make learning fun!

Kindergarten Homework

Homework will be sent home on a daily basis except Friday's. Homework in kindergarten is designed to be done under the supervision of and adult. Parents should interact with their children while encouraging neatness and accuracy. Your child will need a pencil, scissors, crayons, and glue to complete assignments. For a kindergartner, the best homework is to read to your child 365 days a year. Please read to your child daily ( or nightly.) If you speak a language other than English in your home, it is equally important to read in that language. Engage your child in discussion about what you are reading. Homework will consist of 1 to 2 pages which should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. In addition read a minimum of 10 minutes nightly for a total of 20 minutes of homework.
