Kathryn Hughes Elementary and the Santa Clara Unified School District are thrilled to partner with the Altera Foundation in the creation of the Technology Professional Development Center at Hughes Elementary. In the next ten years, classroom instruction and student learning will explode in the area of technology, creating an environment where technology integration into the daily learning activities of students will be the rule, not the exception.  In order to meet this need within our community, and to stay competitive as an educational institution, it is essential that we provide teachers and students with access to cutting-edge educational technology.

Each K-5 classroom at Hughes has a SMART Interactive Whiteboard with SMART Audio System, an LCD projector, a document camera, and new teacher laptops. We are also adding a second computer lab to our campus, offering our students TWO locations to work on online interventions, typing skills, word processing, and multimedia project production. A 1:1 tablet initiative was rolled out in the 2013-2014 school year, providing each student with access to a tablet computer and carefully selected learning apps.  As a school, we are helping students develop the 21st Century Learning Skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.

In addition to the integration of new technology, Hughes is also a training site for further professional development, allowing other schools within our district and county to benefit from the start-up opportunity to design a 21st Century Learning school with a focus on STEM education. We are excited about this project and honored that Altera has agreed to partner with us.

     Thank you, Altera!
